Suzume Japanese film

Suzume すずめの戸締まり is excellent.

Drama and humour, beautifully animated.

I did find her relationship with Souta 宗像 草太 (Munakata Sōta) a bit thin, it needed a bit more interaction to see a real connection that would motivate her to risk her life.

But overall a good clear arc that landed well.  Very much the same level of quality as in Your Name 君の名は。

Comparing against Your Name, there is a somewhat more conventional fantasy structure in Suzume but also considerably more visual humour.  The chair chasing the cat is a film animation masterpiece for the ages.

There are some unexpected and nice callouts to Miyazaki films.  Including ルージュの伝言 which if you’re a superfan you’ll recognize from 魔女の宅急便 .
